Haiti - Politic : Speech by the Head of State, the Economic Forum very critical

Reacting to the speech to the Nation of President Jovenel Moïse, February 14th https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26937-haiti-flash-jovenel-moses-leaves-his-silence-and-addresses-the-nation.html , the Private Sector Economic Forum, while recognizing the responsibility of all in the collective bankruptcy of Haiti, "[...] expected a unifying, conciliatory, soothing and mobilizing speech by the President of the Republic [...] unfortunately, the latter deliberately made the choice of an accusing provocative, divisive."

The Forum stresses that the Head of State has sought to disempower the failures accumulated over the past 16 months "loss of confidence, loss of credibility of our institutions, record budget deficit, accelerated depreciation of the Gourde inflation galloping, lack of surrender accounts of public funds, bad governance, political instability, insecurity etc. "

"The President of the Republic is listening to the people and is proud to understand their problems. But, he qualifies those who reproach him for not listening and not respecting his word, to be anti-Democrats who propose a bad solution to the Nation: the transition [...] "

In his commitment to constitutional order, the Forum "literally takes up the invitation to the dialogue of the President of the Republic who says open his arms to all those who do not agree with him by inviting them to sit down [...] looking for a broad consensus for a political agreement to solve the country's problems [...]'

The Forum hopes that this invitation is sincere and that the President will find the effective formula for bringing together all the parties as soon as possible, "[...] whatever the sacrifices and concessions to make to make this process of dialogue effective, transparent, absent from mistrust and not a constant dialogue of the deaf."

The Forum expects from the Presidency :

  • The publication of an inclusive roadmap on crisis exit negotiations;

  • The adoption and implementation of a sound economic policy, free of populist expedients.

  • An effective fight against all forms of corruption;

  • The unambiguous application of state accountability procedures, including the expeditious follow-up of investigations into the use of PetroCaribe funds.

The Forum also expects from the opposition, wisdom, self-sacrifice and patriotism and agrees to sit down at the bargaining table to which it will be invited.
