Haiti - Economy : Inflation increases to 16%
According to the new Consumer Price Index (CPI base 100, 2017-2018 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26268-haiti-economy-a-new-index-of-consumer-prices-more-efficient.html ), in January 2019 monthly inflation increased by + 1.6% (against + 1.5% the previous month) or 15.5% on an annual basis, against 15.1% in December 2018.

This increase in inflation is due in particular to the behavior of functions such as : Food and non-alcoholic beverages (+ 1.9% over one month and 18.9% over one year), clothing and footwear (+ 1.6% over one month) and 17.1% year-on-year), Furniture, household goods and household maintenance (+ 2.2% over one month and 21.6% over one year), and Health (+ 2.4% over one month and 25.3% over one year).

Products that have seen the strongest year-on-year increase

Food :
Imported rice + 24.1%, meats + 20.7%, cod + 23.8%, milk powder + 22.3%, mango + 23.4%, coconut + 25.6% and cabbage + 25.2%.

Clothing and footwear items :
Dress + 18.3%, panties + 20.3%, shirt + 19.1% and men's pants + 17.9%.

Furniture, household items...
Bed linen + 21.7%, towels + 19.3%, inverter + 26.2%, refrigerator + 33.2%, insecticide + 33.9% and detergent + 20.0%.

Health :
Glasses with corrective lenses + 16.7% and hospitalization costs + 16.1%.

The year-on-year Imported Products Index stands at 18.2% while the Local Products Price Index is at 15.2%.

At the regional level, the monthly positive changes in the CPI are recorded in all regions of the country for the month of January. However, the most significant variations are recorded at the level of the regions: North (16.7%), Transversal (16.7%), and South (16.5%).

General index : + 4.6% over one year (January 2018 10.9% / January 2019: 15.5%: + 1.6% for the month of January 2019

Food and non-alcoholic beverages: month + 1.8%, year + 17.7%
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: month + 1.2%, year + 16.6%
Clothing and footwear items: month + 1.6%, year + 17.1%
Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels: months + 1.5%, year + 14.4%
Furniture, household goods and household maintenance: month + 2.2% year + 21.6%
Health: months + 2.4%, year + 25.3%
Transport: months + 0.8%, year + 5.9%
Communications: month + 0.3%, year + 3.7%
Leisure time: month + 1.6%, year + 25.1%
Lessons: month 0.0%, year + 10.7%
Restaurants: month + 1.4%, year + 15.8%
Miscellaneous goods and services: month + 1.3%, year + 13.2%

2018: January 10.5%; February 10.6%; March 10.8%; April 11.0%; May 11.1%; June 11.4%; July 11.8%; August 12.1%; September 12.4%; October 13.3%; November13.8%; December 2018 14.3%; 2019: January 15.2%.

CPI of imported products :
