Haiti - Politic : Uruguay asks OAS to give priority to the crisis in Haiti

According to a statement from the Uruguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government of that country asked the Organization of American States (OAS) to "give priority to the analysis of the political, social and economic crisis that Haiti is going through" and underlined the need to know "in depth" what is happening in Haiti to seek with the participation of all parties concerned, a way out of crisis and "avoid aggravation of the situation"

Chancellor Rodolfo Nin Novoa underlines "Uruguay appreciates the efforts of the Haitian Government to seek a negotiated solution, especially the recent establishment of the Committee to Facilitate Inter-Haitian Dialogue and hopes that this will help Haitians to find themselves negotiating ways to get out of the current crisis."

Recalling that Uruguay, which presided over the "Group of Friends of Haiti", has made an important contribution to Haiti's institutional restoration process since 2004 by deploying 1,200 men in Haiti, as part of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (Minustah).
