Haiti - Security : Reactivation of the Disarmament Commission

Monday at the National Palace, President Jovenel Moïse accompanied by the Prime Minister Jean-Henry Céant, and René Sylvestre, the President of the Court of Cassation, proceeded to the installation of the 9 members of the "National Commission of Disarmament [handing of illegal weapons in circulation], Decommissioning [destruction] and Reinsertion [legalization]"(CNDDR).

Members of the Commission :

Edwin Florexil, Innocent Joseph, Roodiny Jean Baptiste, Abler Roudy Lalane, Jean Chenet Lucien, Great Marie Lydie, Jean Rebel Dorcena, Jude Jean Pierre and Frantz Toyo.

This CNDDR whose reactivation had been announced in November 2018 by the Head of State who had declared "I passed the instructions for the reactivation of the Disarmament, Decommissioning and Reinsertion Commission", intervenes while one notes an upsurge in gun violence in the country. It is therefore not the creation of a new Commission, the previous one dating from 2014 as part of a similar process of disarmament, destruction and regularization of illegal weapons, in collaboration with the Minustah, a program that had not given the expected results...
