Haiti - FLASH : Violent confrontation at the border between Haitians and Dominican soldiers

Friday in the community of Carrizal Elías Piña at the height of the pyramid 181, where the Dominican Republic builds on its territory, a large multi-agency complex that will house among other customs facilities https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27122-haiti-security-the-dominicans-explain-the-construction-work-at-the-border.html a crowd of highly motivated Haitian, have made hostile remarks to the Dominican soldiers who have provoked the military reinforcement of the perimeter of the base to prevent any violation of the territorial limits.

However, despite the presence of the Dominican soldiers on the spot and the summonses of use, a few dozen Haitians, most of them masked, crossed the border and threw stones and bottles at members of the Dominican army and the army. Specialized Corps of Land Border Security (CESFRONT), which triggered intimidatory firing by the Dominican military to disperse the attackers confirmed Colonel Ángel Alfredo Camacho Ubiera, commander of the Third Infantry Brigade and Colonel José Manuel Durán, Director of Cesfront.

In these clashes where shots would have been fired on the Haitian side according to unconfirmed Dominican sources, two Haitians were injured. Haitian witnesses report a Haitian killed by the Dominican military, unconfirmed information from official sources.

A situation that led the military high command led by the Minister of Defense, General Rubén Paulino Sem and the high command of the army to meet urgently at the Ministry of Defense in Santo Domingo. A Special Commission headed by the Army Commander General, Major-General Estanislao Gonell Regalado and Inspector General Adm. Edmundo Felix Pimentel was set up to investigate the events and make a detailed report as soon as possible.

Paulino Sem deplores what happened at the border but maintains that the military on the border have only done their duty "The Dominican soldiers defended their physical integrity and territorial integrity against aggression [...]"

Recall that for 3 days protests and tire burns are observed in Haiti in this border area, protests that prevented the citizens of both countries to carry out their business activities on Friday's cross-border market.
