Haiti - Justice : Details on aggression at the University Hospital of Peace

The Ministry of Public Health, takes note of the different positions that have been expressed, throughout the country and especially in the medical sector, to denounce the aggression perpetrated on the premises of the University Hospital of Peace (Delmas 33), on the night of 9 to 10 March 2019, against a doctor in the exercise of his duties https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27181-haiti-securitythe-ministry-condemns-the-assault-of-armed-individuals-at-the-university-hospital-of-peace.html

The Ministry assures that it is following with interest the judicial treatment of this file and that it will do everything in its power to ensure that such acts do not go unpunished and that justice is rendered to the doctor.

Following this incident, the perpetrators having been identified, a correspondence relating the aggression was sent to the Ministry of Justice for useful purposes of rights.

Recall that the surgeon Chrislor Lestin was violently assaulted by the former Commissioner of the Government of the Croix-des-Bouquets, Williams Aristide accompanied by security agents. The attack broke out after the Surgeon refused to hand over to former Commissioner Aristide a bullet extracted from the body of a patient admitted to the hospital.

The Ministry states that following this incident and the former Government Commissioner was laid off and the file was transmitted to the competent judicial authorities.

The Ministry remains with Dr. Chrislor Lestin as part of its medical and psychological care and requires the judicial authorities to shed light on this assault in order to do justice to Dr. Lestin, the staff of the University Hospital of Peace and the entire medical community globally affected by this situation.

It should be noted that on Monday, March 11th, a work stoppage was observed by the doctors and staff of the Peace Hospital in protest against this aggression and the lack of security of the staff.

For its part, the Haitian Medical Association (AMH), which has seen fit to give itself some time to reflect on this barbarous act, strongly protests against the crime perpetrated on the person of Dr. Chrislor Lestin and "[...] deplores the behavior of the authorities responsible for protecting lives and defending society, which reflects the general decadence in which our society seems to be plunging, and the disregard by these same authorities of the dignity and integrity of the person, values fundamental principles in any State of Law [...]"

The AMH asks the authorities concerned to respond to the correct demands of the doctors in order to allow the Hospital to resume its activities in the calm and serenity found.
