According to the new Consumer Price Index (CPI base 100, 2017-2018 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26268-haiti-economy-a-new-index-of-consumer-prices-more-efficient.html ), in February 2019 monthly inflation in Haiti, experienced a sharp acceleration up + 1.5% to reach 17.0% (11% in February 2018) on an annual basis, against 15.5% in January 2019.

This rise in inflation is due in particular to the behavior of functions such as: Food products and non-alcoholic beverages (+ 1.9% over one month and 20% over one year), Clothing and footwear (+ 1.7% over one month) and 18.1% year-on-year), Furniture, household goods and household maintenance (+ 2.2% over one month and 21.6% over one year), and Health (+ 2.2% over one month and 22.3% over one year) and Health (2.5% over one month and 27.5% over one year).

Products that have seen the strongest year-on-year increases :

Food :

Imported rice + 22.7%, meat + 20.7%, cod + 24.4%, milk powder + 25.9%, meat +30.4%, banana +27%, cassava +43.2%, true tree +41.1%.

Clothing and footwear items :

Panties, sheaths + 21.1%, shirts + 20%, children's clothing + 21.6%.

Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels :

Propane gas + 19.6%, charcoal + 12.2%.

Furniture, household items...:

Inverter + 29.3%, warmer + 21.8%, insecticides + 36.8%

Health :

Drugs + 33.8%, glasses + 16.5% and hospitalization costs + 16.7%.

The year-on-year Imported Products Index stood at 19.0% while the Local Products Price Index was at 15.9%.

CPI by geographic region (February 2019) :

At the regional level, the monthly positive changes in the CPI are recorded in all regions of the country for the month of January. However, the most significant variations are registered at the level of the regions: North (16.8%), South (17.9%) and transversal + 17.4%

Metropolitan area : months + 1.7%, year + 16.6%

(Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Pétion-ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquet);

Rest West : months + 1.7%, year + 16.7%

(South-East and West departments without the metropolitan area);

North: months + 1.5%, year + 16.8%

(Department of North, North East and North West);

South: months + 1.7%, year + 17.9%

(Department of the South, Grande-Anse and Nippes);
