Haiti - Shipwreck : End of the search, 14 survivors 15 dead 4 missing

United States Coast Guard (USCG) have suspended its search assistance efforts to the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force Marine Branchfollowing the sinking Sunday of a small sailboat overloaded with Haitian migrants off the uninhabited island of West Caicos, in shark-infested waters https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27338-haiti-flash-sinking-in-a-sea-infested-with-sharks-at-least-14-haitians-dead.html

The latest operation report shows 14 survivors, 15 dead, 4 missing out of an estimated 33 migrants, according to survivors' testimonies. A shadow that the authorities of the island are not yet able to confirm with certainty.

The joint efforts of the Haitian Red Cross and the Turks and Caicos Islands helped rescue 14 survivors who were all evaluated and taken care by the rescue staff before being handed over to the archipelago's immigration agents.

In Haiti, the Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) is working jointly with the relevant institutions and the representation of Haiti in the Turks and Caicos Islands to try to clarify the number of victims and passengers embarked on this small sailboat.

The authorities of the two islands are closely following the evolution of the situation to keep the Haitian population informed of possible new developments.
