Haiti - Chile : 1,172 Haitians repatriated volunteers back in Haiti
As part of the "Orderly Humanitarian Return Plan" of the Chilean Government, the 7th flight of returnees took off Wednesday from Santiago de Chile with 176 Haitian citizens aboard a Boeing 767 of the Chilean Air Force, confirmed Rodrigo Ubilla, Chilean Under-Secretary of the Interior.

Note that this 7th flight is the second between Chile and Haiti in one week, the precedent having taken off from Antofagasta a town located 1,364 kilometers north of Santiago, with 177 Haitian citizens on board

With this 7th flight, 1,172 Haitians have been voluntarily repatriated to Haiti since the launch of the "Humanitarian Plan for an Orderly Return" of the Chilean Government https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25877-haiti-flash-chile-launches-its-free-voluntary-return-plan-to-haiti.html and the first flight of returnees in November 2018 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26085-haiti-social-return-from-chile-difficult-for-176-compatriots.html

Of those registered in the Voluntary Humanitarian Return Plan, 2,550 are Haitians, 58 Colombians, 14 Venezuelans, 9 Dominicans, 8 Ecuadorians and Cubans, as well as Paraguayans, Peruvians, Brazilians and Indonesians.

Rodrigo Ubilla indicated that return requests were being reduced, indicating that only an average of 100 people were now registered per week, far from the large volumes at the launch of the Return Plan. He said that most Haitians registered in the voluntary return plan in Haiti, were between 18 and 44 years old and that more than 70% of them were regularly in Chile with a valid visa and resided in the country in the metropolitan area of Santiago, Valparaíso and O'Higgins. However, according to testimonies of the Haitians enrolled in the return plan, they decided to return to Haiti, because of the lack of job opportunities in Chile and integration difficulties mainly because of language.
