Following the announcement of the airline Spirit Airlines, to stop its direct link Fort Lauderdale - Cap Haitien (3 times a week) from June 18, 2019, the North Senator Dieudonné Luma Étienne in a letter to Doris Graham the General Director of Spirit Airlines, asks the company to reconsider this decision and is ready to meet the leaders of Spirit Airlines, to study together appropriate solutions.

Letter from Senator Dieudonné Luma Étienne :

Madam Director General,

While greeting you with the traditional courtesy that characterizes 'the people of the North', I come here to express to you my deep disappointment and the real distress of the populations of the North to the news that the company Spirit Airlines plans in the next time to suspend its flights to Cap Haitien.

My status as Senator of the Republic, current Vice-President of the Tourism Commission as well as that of former Departmental Director of the North of the Ministry of Tourism, allows me to measure in all their acuity the negative effects of such a decision on this region that has the highest tourism potential of the Republic of Haiti.

That is why, without minimizing the difficulties that may be faced by the company Spirit Airlines, I ask the leaders of the company, kindly reconsider their decision by promising them all my help to redress the situations that may have motivated this harmful action at development of the North region in general.

I remain at your disposal and would be happy to meet the leaders of the company Spirit Airlines to study together the appropriate solutions [...]"

Note that the airline will continue to service its daily Fort Lauderdale - Port-au-Prince route.
