Haiti - Economy : The private sector regrets that the Head of State does not listen advices

Friday, the businessman Frantz Bernard Craan, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haiti (CCIH) and Coordinator of the economic forum of the private business sector, said on a TV channel of the capital, that the private sector had to break with the system responsible for poverty and insecurity, before the worsening of the socio-economic situation of the country.

According to Craan, the inaction of the private sector in the current situation must stop, as well as the dual policy of entrepreneurs to help politicians to serve their own interests "I think the time has come to make it clear that we must break with this system that does not serve the interests of the people [...] People need a system in which they find security and predictability. He also regretted that hundreds of Haitians are forced to risk their lives at sea, because Haiti can not offer them the minimum necessary to live.

On the other hand, he recalled that when one was an entrepreneur or President of a country one must be able to surround himself with experienced experts but also know how to listen to them before making decisions, deploring that this capacity seems to be absent at the Head of State "I can not say that President Jovenel Moïse does not make decisions. But I'm not sure he hears and listens..."

Citing as proof of the Head of State's inability to hear and listen, the fuel price file "[...] last year, we met with the President and we proposed solutions to the authorities to gradually increase the price of petroleum products to avoid any shock in the economy. As is done in the Dominican Republic, this gradual increase could have been done with one or two gourdes each week "but the opposite was decided leading to the riots of July 2018 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24881-haiti-flash-the-price-of-gas-explodes-at-the-pump.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24897-haiti-flash-3rd-day-of-riots-in-haiti.html .
