Haiti - Cycling : Caribbean Championship 2019, the Minister invites the population to collaborate

Saturday, May 4 back from Mexico Edwing Charles, Minister of Youth and Sports accompanied by Kénelt Léveillé, President of the Haitian Federation of Cycling, (FHC) and Majorie Guillaume member of the Federation gave a joint press briefing at the Diplomatic Salon of Toussaint Louverture International Airport to inform of the situation of Haiti following the fruitful negotiations with the regional and international cycling authorities.

He recalled that the Haitian delegation had met in Mexico the leaders of the Union Cyclisme International (UCI), and the Panamerican Cycling Confederation (COPACI) and the Caribbean Cycling Confederation (CCC) on 2 and 3 May 2019 and had succeeded to convince them to reconsider their decision to withdraw the organization of the Caribbean Cycling Championship 2019 in Haiti that will take place in October 2019 in Port-au-Prince.

Guillaume, who is familiar with the UCI for being the President's Chief of Staff, said "The presence of the Minister has changed everything. It was a guarantee that the Haitian government will make every effort to ensure that this competition, which will bring together more than 200 riders from 26 countries, is a success."

Minister Charles indicated that insecurity and instability in Haiti were the main reasons given by the nations involved in the competition affirming "It is the responsibility of every Haitian to show that we are ready to organize this sporting competition because the image we have of us outside does not make us proud," adding "Everything we did will be futile if we do not create a climate Peace to reassure participants that we are able to welcome them safely."
