Haiti - Politic : Michel Martelly today in Washington

President Michel Martelly has left the country today, Tuesday, April 19, for Washington DC. During this three-day trip in the U.S. capital, President Michel Martelly will meet representatives of international financial institutions such as World Bank President, Mr Bob Zoellick, that of the International Monetary Fund, Mr. Dominique Strauss-Kahn and representatives of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington charged with the Haitian file.

During these meetings the President will discuss of the existing cooperation between these financial institutions and Haiti, and his vision for the future cooperation between them and Haiti, focusing on job creation, education, security, reconstruction and health.

This stay will also allow to President Martelly to meet with major media like CNN, the Washington Post and Fox News to reiterate the message that his Government will focus its efforts and energy to the reconstruction of the country, to boost the economy and to ensure that a maximum of Haitian children have access to basic education.

The President Michel Martelly after having met with the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will conclude his tour with a visit to the Embassy of Haiti in Washington and a press conference at the prestigious National Press Club.

The meeting between the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the President Michel Martelly "will serve as an opportunity to reaffirm the relationship between the United States and Haiti and the United States' continued commitment to Haiti's reconstruction and economic development" declared Mark C. Toner, the spokesman of the Department of State in a press statement, adding that the meeting will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, April 20 at 11:30 am at the Department of State.
