Haiti - DR : The CDEEE claims to be able to sell electricity to Haiti
Rubén Jiménez Bichara, Executive Vice President of the Dominican Corporation of State Electricity Companies (CDEEE), affirmed that, with among other things, the electricity produced by the new Punta Catalina thermoelectric power plant built at a cost of almost billion US dollars and new renewable energy projects, the Dominican Republic is able to provide electric power to the Republic of Haiti.

He said that this operation could be viable and profitable for both countries thanks to the agreement with international organizations for the rehabilitation of distribution networks in the main Haitian cities.

He explained that the Punta Catalina thermoelectric power plant, whose first power generation unit is in the test phase, has so far generated up to 385 megawatts of power, indicating that next October the second unit of Punta Catalina will enter the testing phase and add another 300 Mw.

He also reported that 2,000 new Mw have entered the distribution network in the Dominican Republic and that out of 12 projects, 10 have been completed.

22 MW) was inaugurated in March 2016 is located in the Democratic Republic of Monte Plata. This plant will be able with the completion of Phase II to produce more than 60 Mw of clean energy with its 260,000 solar panels covering an area equivalent to 50 football fields.

Among the wind projects under construction, the $ 125 million Pecasa project on the Dominican North Coast, which is expected to be operational in 2019, will produce 50 Mw of clean energy.

In addition, Jimenez Bichara said that in the next four to five years, the power generation park in the Dominican Republic will need 700 megawatts to 900 megawatts additional to meet the growing demand for energy and that a tender will be launched this effect.
