Haiti - FLASH : Haiti qualified for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019 !
On Sunday as part of the FIFA U-17 World Cup qualifiers (World Brazil Brazil 2019) of the Confederation zone of North America, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF) our Grenadiers U-17 faced Honduras at the IMG Academy Sports Complex in Bradenton, Florida.

The match proved difficult against Honduras, who were defeated 2-0 by our Grenadiers in the Pool Phase on May 1st. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27620-haiti-world-cup-u-17-our-grenadiers-dominate-honduras-[2-0]-in-the-elimination-phase.html

The Grenadiers evolved in 4-2-3-1, against Honduras who played caution in 4-5-1

After a draw [0-0] in the first period, it was not until the 65' of play that Fred Sainté (#18) opened the scoring in favor of Haiti [1-0], score that Hector Medrano of Honduras returns to equality at 74' [1-1].

After regulation time and 3 minutes of overtime the score remained unchanged [1-1].

In overtime (2X 15 minutes of intense suspense), unable to decide before the whistle of extra time, both teams played the fateful penalty shootout to determine the winner. Our Grenadiers won [4-3] thanks to shot into goal of Jean Loubens Pierre Michel, Emmanuel Jean Geffrard, Carl Fred Sainté and Samuel Jeanty, pocketing the ticket for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, Brazil 2019, 12 years after the qualification of Haiti (Korea 2007) which had seen the elimination of Haiti in the first round.

Note that our Grenadiers U-17 have made a clear round, with 4 consecutive victories, will allow with this victory, Haiti to participate for the 4th time in its history at a world championship after Germany in 1974 (Senior) , South Korea in 2007 (U-17) and in the women's selection France 2018 (U-20). The Grenadiers are the only Caribbean team to qualify for the 2019 semi-finals in CONCACAF

Haiti, who has validated his ticket for the U-17 World Cup, will play in the semifinal against Mexico, winner of El Salvador [5-1] and will try to qualify for the final and who knows how to dream for the title of champion...
