Haiti - Sports : A new step in the fight against doping in the country

On Friday May 24th at a press conference, Edwing Charles the Minister of Youth presented the members of the National Anti-Doping Commission. Recall that according to article 2 of the decree of January 17, 2019, this Commission is composed of 5 members:

Members of the National Anti-Doping Commission :

Ernst Gilmus, senior executive of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MJSAC);

Jude Désir, Director of the Physical Activities and Sports Department (DAPS) of MJSAC;

Alcide Laguerre, President of the Bar Association of Petit-Goâve;

Ms. Carol Chalmers, representative of the Haitian Olympic Committee (COH);

Dr. Jessy Pierre, representative of the COH.

During the presentation, Minister Charles recalled the different commitments of the state authorities relating to the fight against doping and invited the Commissioners to fulfill their responsibilities. He also guaranteed them the full cooperation of the Ministry.

It should be noted that this Commission remains an important tool that will have to prove to the international sports bodies, in particular the assessment mission of the Caribbean Cycling Confederation visiting Haiti this week, Haiti's willingness and ability to meet the required criteria in view of holding the Caribbean Cycling Championship 2019 which will take place in Port-au-Prince next October https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27646-haiti-sports-the-caribbean-cycling-championship-2019-will-take-place-in-haiti-official.html

Recall that without the effective control of doping, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) had threatened Haiti to exclude in January 2019 Haitian athletes from all international competitions due to the absence of a National Anti-Doping Agency in Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25579-haiti-flash-haiti-can-be-excluded-from-all-international-sports-competitions.html situation that was made consistent "in extremis ".
