Haiti - Security : Hecatomb on road

The weekly report of the Haitian organization Technical and Operational Services to Stop Accident (STOP-accidents), shows a sharp rise compared to the previous week https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-27782-icihaiti-security-17-accidents-and-73-victims.html , for the weekend of 24 to 26 May 2019, 46 accidents were recorded, which resulted in 22 dead and 192 wounded.

Of these 46 road accidents 22 people lost their lives and 192 were injured to different degrees, some of them serious with cranial trauma.

These accidents occurred at Port-Margot (North), Charrier (Cap-Haitien / North), Tabarre (West), Petit-Goave (West), Alexandre Pétion High School (Port-au-Prince / West), Nirvard (Mirebalais / Center), Pierre Payen (Artibonite), St. Marc (Artibonite), Little Artibonite River, Léogâne (West) and Aquin (South).

"Mirebalais, Port-Magot, Petit-Goâve and Pierre Payen are the areas where most of these accidents were recorded," said Dr. Garnel Michel, Coordinator of STOP-Accident, who added that several collisions have occurred during the celebration of Mother's Day on Sunday, May 26, 2019.

According to the Coordinator, these accidents occurred, in the majority of cases, following collisions between several vehicles including trucks and trucks transporting between Port-au-Prince (Haitian capital) and provincial towns.

Dr. Michel Garnel, believes that these figures are becoming increasingly worrying, also highlighting the efforts of relief workers including those of the National Ambulance Center (CAN), the Haitian Red Cross (CRH) or the Hero organization that helped half the victims.
