Haiti - Justice : 8 people released for lack of evidence, after more than 4 years 30/05/2019 07:55:55
The investigating judges recognize that there is no sufficient evidence to justify the referral to the trial court of these 3 women and 5 men, including 4 young boys, yet placed in pre-trial detention for 4 years and 5 months. The Office of Human Rights in Haiti (BDHH) is particularly alarmed by the men's description of detention conditions in the National Penitentiary and warns authorities, human rights organizations and the general public about the massive human rights violations that seem persist in the country's largest prison, despite the positive image reflected by recent waves of releases.
