Haiti - Economy : Strikes multiply in the public service 06/06/2019 11:00:09 Tuesday, June 4, 2019 officials of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) observed a work stoppage to demand a disproportionate salary increase of 300% that they justify because of the increase in the cost of living (!). A stoppage or a disruption in the collection of taxes, which could at the moment, have considerable aggravating consequences for the Public Treasury, whose collected tax revenues, already insufficient, are vital for the survival of the State. At this work stoppage, are added the strike of the members of the judicial system (since May 20, 2019 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27781-haiti-flash-the-judicial-system-paralyzed-in-the-18-jurisdictions-of-the-country.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27848-haiti-news-zapping.html , that of the employees of the Ministries of Planning (9th week of strike) and that of of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27741-haiti-economy-72-hours-of-strike-suspension-at-the-ministry-of-commerce.html . Last minute... We are learning that employees of the Blood Transfusion Center, a vital infrastructure for public health, are also on strike. Employees claim payment of 7 months of salary arrears...
