PetroCaribe : POHDH against foreign experts

Following the publication of a statement by Jovenel Moïse in the Miami Herald https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-28234-haiti-flash-towards-an-international-audit-of-the-use-of-petrocaribe-funds.html where he confirmed that he was discussing with the Organization of American States (OAS) to establish a team of independent international financial experts to carry out a "fair and objective audit" on the use of PetroCaribe fund. The Platform of Haitian Organizations of Human Rights (POHDH) believes that this act which "aims to tarnish the image of the judges of the Court of Auditors is an insult to the population and an obstacle to the strengthening and the independence of our institutions." The POHDH categorically opposes the approach of President Jovenel Moïse and asks Justice to assume its responsibilities.

Deputy Alfredo Antoine leaves the majority bloc

Allied pro-government Deputy Alfredo Antoine (KID, Kenscoff) leaves the majority bloc of the lower house of the "Alliance of Parliamentarians for Renewal" (APR) in order to have "greater autonomy in the accomplishment of his task" says the Deputy in his letter to the president of the APR.

The RDNP calls for compromise

Tuesday at a press conference, Eric Jean-Baptiste, the Secretary General of the Rally of National Progressive Democrats (RDNP) has launched an appeal for political compromise between the ruling power and the opposition deploring that for the latter, everything comes down to the resignation of the Head of State recalling "We have made the choice of a political system based on democracy. This requires a permanent discussion. Problems must be solved around a table."

VISA centers for Chile and Brazil closed

On Thursday, July 18, 2019, the Visa Application Center for Brazil (BVAC) and for Chile (CAVC) will be closed to the public.

The two Centers will resume their activities on July 19th. CAVC clients who are scheduled to meet on July 18th may attend July 17 or 19 at IOM, E. Pierre Street, 11 (US Embassy Zone)

USAID alongside the Banana Producers Union

Mission Director Gary Juste visited the Union of Banana Producers' Union (UPB) in Limonade. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID-Haiti) through the project "AVANSE" provided technical assistance and equipment to the UPB banana farm, which plans to export bananas to Germany in September 2019 .
