The FOKAL is outraged face the arson attack, which destroyed the premises of the Jacques Roumain Community Library, the community radio "Tèt Ansanm" and the Center for the Culture and Development of Carice (SKDK), in this commune of North-east of Haiti. An act of vandalism that occurred following the publication of the final results of elections of March 20 and clashes between supporters.

The FOKAL expresses its deepest solidarity and demands that light be shed on these events and that justice is done. This is a collaborative effort of dozens of years reduced to ashes in an area where people already knew a lot of trouble to access the information. Library of Carice were a space that housed the library, a community radio station and a youth association. The reading room also served as a meeting place for youth clubs and associations of the area, this room were visited by students, they came to prepare their exams.

At the very beginning of the year, the staff of the the program library of the FOKAL went to Carice to visit the library, to bring books to complete its documentary fund, and a lot of computer equipment under the project Mini-Labs Mobiles, which consists to equip libraries of the network of small mobile laboratories to promote free and open access to information on a larger scale. All this material and these efforts have been reduced to ashes...
