Haiti - Social : Truckers of Fond Parisien block the border of Malpasse 03/08/2019 09:49:52 Unlike Thursday, where commercial activities were only disrupted, Friday all traffic was blocked. Trucks were placed in front of the border fence to prevent the entry of all Dominican vehicles into Haitian territory. The small Haitian traders who make their weekly purchases at the binational market have had to turn back. No activity was reported either at the Haitian customs level. Jean Sanet Nelson, President of the union "Syn-trans-haïdo", said the blockage will be maintained until the release of Orile Cénat. Stressing that according to the laws relating to traffic accidents on the Dominican territory "the Haitian driver should be released against the signing of a commitment protocol to compensate the victims..." The Support Group for Returnees and Refugees urges the Haitian authorities to dialogue with the Dominican State in order to obtain a favorable solution to both parties to allow the resumption of activities at Malpasse/Jimaní.
