Haiti - Army : Nearly 20% of FAd'H soldiers are women

Nearly half of the graduated officers and 50 soldiers (nearly 20% of the workforce) are women, said the General Staff on the sidelines of the parade of the "Marie Jeanne" women's peloton under the sustained public applause that followed the swearing in of new military on Wednesday https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-28500-haiti-army-286-new-soldiers-take-oath.html

"We are very happy to receive women doctor, engineer, agronomist and soldiers in the new defense force of the country. They represent the face of an army in complete mutation," declared President Jovenel Moïse.

In his remarks of circumstance Enold Joseph, the Minister of the Defense resigning insisted to specify that this new army, was not a return to the old military order, but an army with new missions of accompaniment of the population in a deterrent approach based on civil defense. Stressing "[...] this is the first time that the army of Haiti officially welcomes women as soldiers of line [...] It is with you that the era of the parity and the equity of gender makes its entry in this prestigious institution [...]" adding "The goal set in this new army of Haiti is 50% women."

In the Dominican Republic, out of 56,936 servicemen on active service, 8,540 are women (15%) (Source : Dominican Ministry of Defense 2017).
