Haiti - Army : 286 new soldiers take oath
Wednesday, August 14, at the Anacaona military base, President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by the resigning Prime Minister Jean Michel Lapin, in the presence of the members of the high staff of the army, representatives of the 3 Powers, members of the government, Civil Society and other personalities, participated in the graduation ceremony of a promotion of 15 officers, 23 NCOs and 248 soldiers.

The officers and aspiring officers of this promotion are doctors, agronomists, engineers and this new promotion has no less than 50 women.

With the incorporation of these new soldiers the total strength of the new Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H) amounts to 406 military including the 120 members of the Corps of Engineers already trained in Ecuador and deployed on the ground to which adds 7 members of the General Staff of the FAd'H https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23941-haiti-politic-official-ceremony-of-installation-of-the-general-staff-of-the-army.html

The members of this new promotion took the oath, which dedicates their definitive entry into the Armed Forces "[...] I swear and solemnly promise fidelity to the Republic of Haiti. I swear to serve it according to my honor and conscience and to defend it against all its enemies, whoever they may be. I swear allegiance and respect to the Constitution and the flag. I swear and promise obedience to the orders of my superiors, in accordance with the regulations of the Armed Forces of Haiti... [...]"

In his intervention the Head of State declared "[...] The remobilization of the army is not only a campaign promise, it is a constitutional requirement. It is also a way of helping the people to come to terms with their history [...] which leaves many bad memories in our minds and [...] to remind new soldiers, officers and NCOs of what is written in the oath, that they have just pronounced. Never forget that you have sworn to serve the country, respecting the highest standards of the laws of the land,

[...] To be miliary is more than a profession, it is a priesthood. It is a commitment that results in the acceptance of strong demands, the availability, the absolute primacy of the execution of the mission. It is also the adherence to a code of honor referring to disinterestedness, obedience, courage, self-denial, honesty, fraternity and patriotism..."

The Head of State took the opportunity to congratulate the Haitian military who work on the construction of roads in the Northeast, organize mobile clinics, distribute and deal with disasters such as floods etc... Jovenel Moïse invited each soldier, officer and NCOs to give first place to his mission in his life, because "military life is a priesthood."

In his words Enol Joseph, the resigning Minister of Defense, this new army wants to be a modern and professional army, with an emphasis on the formation and the establishment of technical military units capable of intervening in cases of natural disasters, conduct construction and protect historical, environmental and economic assets.

Lieutenant-General Jodel Lesage, Commander-in-Chief of the FAd'H, for his part pointed out to the new officers "Your mission is to serve the people. To serve the population well, we need you [...] your presence is essential to remix our engineering, health and agronomy department on the reforestation, road-building and cleaning projects, cleaning gullies and riverbeds, protecting watersheds. We are just as eager to protect our land and sea borders."
