Haiti - FLASH : Tropical storm Dorian moves towards Haiti 25/08/2019 08:51:31 According to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, DORIAN is traveling west at 19 km/h and is expected to remain on its path, although it may be heading west-northwest this Sunday and continue to Tuesday on this trajectory. Maximum sustained winds have increased in recent hours and are currently 65 km/h and are within 35 km of the center. Sales should gradually strengthen in the coming days (120 km/h and more) and DORIAN would then become a hurricane probably Tuesday. For the moment the trajectory estimated on 5 days, crosses the island of Hispaniola. DORIAN should start to affect the Dominican Republic on Wednesday or Thursday and touch Haiti (if the trajectory does not change and the speed of travel) Friday or Saturday, August 31. The Hydro Weather Unit of Haiti in collaboration with the Directorate of Civil Protection is following this system in order to keep the population informed of the evolution of DORIAN. In addition, 280 volunteer brigadiers have received from the Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC), with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), a series of training courses in first aid, rescue and clearing with funding from the Government of Brazil in partnership with the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program, to maximize preparedness and response capacity in crisis situations. Remember that the DPC can rely on more than 8,000 volunteers throughout the national territory. These trainings must enable them, among other things: to intervene in rescue and site security missions; in situations of landslides, collapse of buildings; to protect victims exposed to danger and alert the emergency services while keeping the victims in positions of adequate expectations... Recall that the University of Colorado estimates that the 2019 season will include about 5 hurricanes (average 6.4), 13 named storms (average 12.1), 50 named storm days (average is 59.4), 16 hurricane days (average is 24.2), 2 major hurricanes (Category 3-4 or 5 with winds above 178km / h, mean 2.7), 4 major hurricane days (average 6.2). The probability of impact of a major hurricane in the United States is about 90% on the long average. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27875-haiti-weather-beginning-of-hurricane-season.html See also : https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-28571-haiti-weather-tropical-depression-in-formation-under-surveillance.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27875-haiti-weather-beginning-of-hurricane-season.html SL/ HaitiLibre
