A document entitled "Contribution to the added value of the population of foreign origin in the Dominican Republic" a complementary study to the second national survey on immigrants conducted by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNPA), reveals that the legal foreigners on the Dominican territory, represent 9.5% of the active workforce is 334,000 Haitians out of 417,000 foreign workers.

The study indicates that the average monthly income of immigrants was 12,108.88 pesos (± 22,602 gourdes), with differences between the places of origin of these people. For example, people born in Haiti earn on average RD $ 11,478.4 per month (21,425 Gourdes), while those born in other countries earned about RD $ 15,360.9 per month (28,700 Gourdes). According to the study this difference could be explained by the level of education.

It should be noted that the minimum wage in the Dominican Republic has just increased by 14% since the release of this study and is not taken into account in the amount of wages quoted

"It can be expected that the labor market income of the Haitian-born population will be lower than that of other workers born in other countries because of their low level of education, which also affects on the type of activity they are doing, they are generally not productive and require little specialization," says the study. Only 2.44% of Haitians working in the Dominican Republic have completed university studies, while nearly a third of foreigners from other countries have a university education

In some sectors activities, not only wages are high, but productivity also, for example, in construction and agriculture, Haitians, generate 30% of the added value of these activities. Productivity, in general, has increased in the country, both among Dominicans and foreigners.

Note finally that transfers from the Haitian diaspora in the Dominican Republic to Haiti, according to a briefing note from the World Bank in 2017 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24198-haiti-flash-record-of-remittances-from-the-haitian-diaspora.html amounted to 566 million, 2nd behind the United States position and just ahead of France (3rd with 149 million).
