Haiti - Environment : Minister Jouthe's speech at COP14 (New Delhi) 11/09/2019 10:36:21 In his address on the podium, Minister Jouthe said that the fight against land degradation in Haiti is one of the major national priorities. Citing various initiatives and adaptation measures implemented by the Haitian State in recent years. He mentioned, among other things, the project to restore, by 2030, 15 of the 30 largest degraded watersheds in the country. He added that the Government also intended to put in place coherent reforestation programs ordered with local communities. Finally, the Minister recalled that Haiti suffers disproportionately the effects of climate change whose reparations for their ecological consequences prevent the State from investing in sustainable development initiatives. In this context, he hoped that COP14 could contribute to further strengthening the various steps already taken in the fight against desertification and drought for the benefit of the various affected communities. During this COP, Minister Jouthe took part in several ministerial round tables and met some partners including Yannick Glemarec, the Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund, to share the vision and commitment of the Haitian State in restoration of the country's ecosystems. At the same time, the other members of the delegation participated in the contact group negotiations on the texts of the draft decisions on the budget and policy frameworks.
