Haiti - Training : Master in Geosciences, important agreement between UNDP and UEH

This week, as part of the 2nd Edition of the International Colloquium Haiti Geosciences organized during 2 days under the aegis of the Unit of Research in Geosciences (URGeo) of the Faculty of Sciences of the State University of Haiti (FDSUEH), an agreement was initialed between Fritz Deshommes, the Rector of the State University of Haiti (UEH) and Stéphanie Ziebell, the Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Haiti

Through the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding, on the management of risks and disasters, the sustainable management of solid residues and land-use planning, UNDP commits itself, according to the main axes of its mandate and in the the limits of its funding, to reinforce the support of Geosciences master students, for an effective and sustainable transfer of skills in the field of qualification and mapping of natural risks. This cooperation agreement covers mainly the areas of data sharing produced by UNDP, the acquisition of educational equipment, the offer of internship and the transfer of expertise.

Stéphanie Ziebell, in her speech stated, "UNDP is pleased with this initiative which will serve as a basis for the emergence of a pool of young engineers, capable of working at national and regional level, to reduce risks. We can only support and encourage such commitment."

For its part, Deshommes did not hide his satisfaction from this agreement which is one more effort towards the enhancement of higher education in Haiti "This protocol confirms the complementarity of the two institutions on natural risks.
