Haiti - FLASH : Attempts of fires and spill of excrement in schools

On the night of September 24-25, unidentified individuals attempted to set fire to the Pinchinnat High School and Célie Lamour School located on Baranquilla Avenue in the town of Jacmel (South East).

The population alerted from the beginning of the fires intervened quickly and managed to avoid the spread of fire, pending the intervention of firefighters... Pinchinnat High School, a heritage founded in 1860 has suffered limited damage thanks to the rapid intervention of keeper.

Loudie Caesar, the mayor of Jacmel, describes as "senseless acts" these attempts to set fire to schools, including the Pinchinnat High School, a Haitian heritage institution, which fortunately has not been seriously damaged.

She points fingers of opposition activists as probably perpetrators of these criminal acts, especially as Wednesday morning, anti-government demonstrators holding placards carrying messages hostile to the Government and demanding the resignation of the Head of the State, had taken concrete, erected barricades of burning tires and disrupted traffic and commercial activities.

In addition, fecal matter was dumped in several schools of the city forcing the establishments to close their doors and to send the students home, while waiting for the cleaning and the disinfections of the places...
