Haiti - Security : The Town Hall of Jacmel worried about the irresponsible acts of protesters

In a press release the Town Hall of Jacmel expresses its concerns about the irresponsible actions of the demonstrators wanting to assert their socio-economic and political demands during the last 3 weeks, where the protesters are attacking public and private property...

The Municipal Council strongly denounces the closure of the public market of Beaudouin having caused considerable economic losses to the detriment of merchants and families; acts of vandalism in the Beaudouin and Chile markets; Attempt to burn Pinchinat High School and Célie Lamour School https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-28851-haiti-flash-attempts-of-fires-and-spill-of-excrement-in-schools.html as well as the Office of the EDH and the destruction of the environmental goods like the anarchic cut of the fruit trees and forests...

Consequently, the Jacmel Town Hall asks the Justice and the police to supervise the demonstrators in the exercise of their constitutional rights and to take all the measures so that not only the public and private goods are protected against the acts of vandalism, but also so that the perpetrators of these acts are put out of harm's way.

The Municipal Council recalls that "The holding of pro or anti-government demonstrations should in no way be used as an excuse to burn public or private property, much less to endanger the physical integrity of people and destroy the environment."
