Haiti - Social : Demonstrations and insecurity seriously affect humanitarian aid

Socio-political instability, violent anti-government protests by the opposition, road blockages and insecurity in Haiti especially in recent weeks have had serious repercussions on UN and NGO humanitarian aid programs working in the country, said the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Thus, the World Food Program (WFP) has been forced to suspend since September 16 last food supplies to schools and only 39% of the centers have received basic products in the South where the situation is particularly delicate...

"If the situation continues, thousands of people already facing the consequences of severe food insecurity will be hit even harder, because food aid will not reach them," OCHA said, who recalled that at the beginning of this year, there were 2.6 million Haitians in food insecurity and that the number had since probably increased.

According to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, it is estimated that more than 2 million children and adolescents can not go to school because of the current situation...

Recall that the UN has requested $ 126.2 million from the member countries to help 1.3 million of the 2.6 million people in need of emergency assistance in Haiti, but to date only 26.4 million of this soome , or 21%, were received...
