Haiti - Politic : Note of conjoncture of the Government

In a note of conjoncture, Eddy Jackson Alexis, the Secretary of State for Communication, expresses his concern about the country's political climate, which has deteriorated significantly in recent days after four weeks of socio-political instability and widespread violence which affected the social and economic life of the country.

He recalls "[...] If the law and the Constitution give people the right to conduct political activities, violence against individuals, attacks on private residences, businesses and police stations are not part of the law. There is no legitimacy in the mode of violence that accompanies these movements.

These acts of violence are the result of speeches and threats to the lives and property of many in the public sphere [...] threatening or violent speech offers the opportunity to do all kinds of acts that do not fit the spirit or to the practice of democracy, acts which give no possibility of having a political space respectful of the expression of contradictory ideas [...]"

Secretary of State Alexis "condemns violence in all its forms and offers condolences to the families of those who have been killed, to the victims of violence and to all those who have lost their property or their businesses in recent days."

Alexis invites all stakeholders to change their methods and welcomes the initiative of the Presidency, for the establishment of a Commission to lead the discussions with all stakeholders involved leading to a concerted solution to end the crisis https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-28959-haiti-politic-president-moise-names-7-mediators-for-a-way-out-of-crisis.html

Concluding "At the governmental level, [...] we work tirelessly to deal with the crisis in various forms. The Government will not fail in its mission".
