Haiti - FLASH : Wave of violence, the blood flows to Saint-Marc

Friday a wave of violence swept St. Marc (Dept. Artibonite) where several hundred highly motivated demonstrators responding to the call of the opposition had taken the streets. Clashes between protesters and security forces reportedly resulted in around 10 wounded, including at least one officer from the Departmental Maintenance Unit (UDMO) wounded by a protesters shot, confirmed by Chief Inspector Gary Desrosiers , Deputy spokesman of the National Police of Haiti (PNH)

In the locality of "Pòtay Gèp" in Saint-Marc, during a clash between protesters and the police, a 17-year-old man (Carlos Joubert) was fatally shot. Witnesses say they saw officers from an elite PNH unit firing at men height to disperse protesters. Others speak of a police offciers with a knee projectile who shot and killed the teenager.

The angry protesters, who blame the police for being responsible for the boy's death, burnt a mini-bus, ransacked several businesses and institutions, smashed windshields and tried to set fire to two branches of the National Bank of Credit.
