Haiti - FLASH : The Government condemns and accuses radio Zenith of incitement to the armed struggle

The Government strongly condemns the new trend in the country where heavily armed civilians attack patrols of the National Police of Haiti (PNH).

On the afternoon of Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at the Carrefour Marassa, several agents from different units of the PNH, assisted the employees of the Ministry of Public Works, the Department of Solid Waste Management and the National Center of Equipment that were busy unblocking and clearing the streets of the metropolitan area of the barricades, were the subject of a heavy weapon attack by unidentified individuals, positioned on the roofs of the surrounding houses.

In a statement the Government said "This scandalous incident, in more ways than one, is to report and condemn for two reasons :

The first is the proliferation of armed gangs that take advantage of popular demands and the current situation to form militias. Their goal is to control entire neighborhoods, driving residents out of their homes, ransoming citizens, and attacking police forces with assault weapons.

The second reason, as in the case of Tuesday's incident is the incitement to violence and armed struggle widely advocated by Radio Zenith who openly took up the cause for the bandits by indicating to them, by the the airwaves, the location of the police officers, while suggesting the fate to be reserved for them. This attitude is unworthy of a responsible radio station and whatever the reasons evoked it must be condemned .

The Government invites the Press Associations, human rights officials to leave from their reserve to put under scrutiny objectively, the inflammatory behavior displayed by Radio Zenith in the current crisis and to condemn this delinquency practice which has nothing to do with a responsible press."

Recall that Radio TV Zenith (RTZ) is the property of the businessman Rony Colin also Mayor of Croix-des-Bouquets.
