Haiti - Economy : The workers consider insufficient the increase of 19% of the minimum wage

The upward adjustment of the minimum wage of 420 Gourdes to 500 Gourdes (+ 19%) announced by the Government for an 8-hour day of work in export-oriented assembly industries and other manufacturing industries geared towards the export (Segment F) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29201-haiti-flash-increase-of-minimum-wage-all-the-details.html is considered insufficient for workers...

For the National Central of Workers' Unions of Haiti (CNOA), the new minimum wage scale is insignificant and considers that it is a diversion of the Government to break the mobilization of workers who demand the resignation of President Jovenel Moïse .

Dominique Saint-Éloi the President of the CNOA reminds that the wage demands of the workers are 1500 gourdes per day combined with social benefits.

Former Senator Steven Benoît, the originator of the Minimum Wage Law in 2009, considers that the Government's proposal is a wage cut due to inflation (19.5% in August, the last available official figure) .
