Haiti - FLASH : The United States supports Moïse, the opposition remains on its positions
On Wednesday, November 20, United Republican Ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Dawn Knight Craft headed a delegation arrived in Haiti for a visit of a few hours.

A visit described by some opposition groups as interference in the internal affairs of Haiti, notably Me André Michel, spokesman for the radical opposition of the so-called "Démocratique et Populaire" Movement, which reiterated the position of its movement "We will not negotiate [...] Resignation and nothing else".

Upon arrival, the American diplomat accompanied by her delegation met in closed session at the National Palace with President Jovenel Moïse. At the end of this meeting, the Head of State published in his official Twitter account "I met with the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Mrs. Kelly Craft, about ways and means to implement, in the framework of an inclusive dialogue, with a view to reaching a consensual resolution of the political crisis in the country."

After her meeting at the National Palace, the US Ambassador held in the afternoon at the US diplomatic representation, a working session of nearly two hours with several political leaders including Senators Evalière Beauplan, Yuri Lafortue and Joseph Lambert, the former Senator Edmonde Supplice Beauzile, Coordinator of the Fusion Party, St Phard Liné Balthazar, President of the PHTK, Joël Vorbe aka "Pacha" of Fanmi Lavalas...

US diplomacy listened to different views and pleaded for an inclusive solution with President Moïse, an option rejected by opposition leaders who were against any agreement with the ruling team, reiterating their one and only position regarding the resignation of President Moses.

After leaving Haiti late this afternoon, Ambassador Craft said in a statement "During my meeting today with Jovenel Moise, Haiti’s democratically elected president, he made clear his commitment to addressing Haiti’s urgent needs, promoting economic prosperity, and building a better future for all Haitians. My engagement with other political and economic stakeholders reinforced the urgent need to support Haiti’s state institutions.

A fully functioning government must:

Fight corruption;
Investigate and prosecute human rights abusers, including those responsible for the La Saline and Bel Air killings; and
Combat narcotics and human trafficking.

President Moïse and other democratically elected leaders have an obligation to come together, put aside differences, and find an inclusive solution for the benefit of the people of Haiti. The United States stands ready to support, and I leave Haiti with the expectation that they will rise to the challenge."

Recall that this is the fourth visit to Haiti by US officials around the crisis, this year :
