Haiti - Cité Soleil : The powerful «Ti ougan» Gang Leader shot dead

Friday, a little before noon Ginel Louis aka "Ti Ougan", the powerful leader of gang of Boston (Commune of Cité Soleil) was shot dead as well as 3 of his bodyguards. A rumor circulates that it would be men from his own gang riding motorcycles, which would be at the origin of his execution on the orders of another gang...

Officially, the exact circumstances of his death remain confused, and it is not known who sponsored this execution. The faithful men of "Ti ougan" have retreated to take cover while waiting to learn more.

A situation at the origin of a great tension in Cité Soleil where the automatic firing of weapons were heard until the beginning of the afternoon. Upon the news of the death of "Ti Ougan" known dozens of families have fled their homes and small merchants have deserted streets and alleys to escape reprisals that have not delayed... Until late in the evening, sporadic shooting automatic weapons have been reported...

While for several years, "a relative peace" between gangs ruled in Cité Soleil, the death of "Ti Ougan", may weaken this precarious balance and relaunch the gang war

The situation remains tense at Cité Soleil where an individual known as "Ti Joseph" has already declared himself the new head of the area.

For its part, the National Police of Haiti (PNH) remains under alert. The authorities have not reported on the number of injuries, deaths or house fire caused by the violence.
