"My dear compatriots, by assigning me by your vote on 20 March, the destiny of the Republic of Haiti, you made me the first servant, I measure the solemnity of the day and especially the immense responsibility that falls to me, the responsibility to represent you all, yes all girls and son of this land full of history so often proven, but so proud of its glorious past..."
