Haiti - WTA Boxing : The Haitiano-Quebecer Jean Pascal retains his title of world light heavyweight champion

Saturday in the ring of the State Farm Arena in Atlanta (Georgia, USA), the Haitiano-Quebecer boxer Jean Pascal (37) who competed in his 12th world championship, won the victory by shared decision, by beating in 12 rounds the Swede Badou Jack (36 years old) at the end of a close combat which was decided on points.

Jean Pascal, born in Port-au-Prince, who defended for the first time his title of light heavyweight champion of the WBA World Boxing Association, signed his 35th victory in 43 fights. His opponent Badou Jacques (28 fights, 22 victories) suffered the 3rd defeat of his career.

This victory enabled Jean to keep his title of WBA light heavyweight world champion which he had recovered by causing surprise in August 2019 by defeating the American Marcus Browne https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-28418-icihaiti-boxing-haitian-canadian-jean-pascal-once-again-world-light-heavyweight-champion.html title that he had lost in November 2018 against Dmitry Bivol.

The fight against Badou Jack ended in 12 rounds. If Pascal dominated the first rounds, his opponent far from being shot down came out stronger thereafter. The highlight of this fight was when Pascal sent Badou Jack to the mat in the 4th round, the bell saving the Swede 6 seconds from the end of the round. Subsequently Pascal did everything to stay in the fight but almost lost in the 12th round, after being hit hard by the Swede who required the intervention of the referee to know if Pascal could still fight...

At the end of the fight, Jack was convinced that he had won the WBA title and Pascal's light heavyweight belt, but the judges decided otherwise, handing over 3 identical cards from 114-112; two in favor of Pascal (35-6-1, 20 K.-O.) and one for Jack (22-3-3, 13 K.-O.).

A victory for Pascal that the public greeted with hoots…
