Haiti - Politic : The Deputy Jerry Tardieu rejects the false attacks of Me Newton Saint-Juste
The lawyers engaged by the Haitian State in its dispute with the electricity producers now have a new target, they are interested in the loans granted by the ONA and in this context, Me Newton Saint-Juste one of the lawyers of the State has asked the Prosecutor's Office to open a judicial investigation into loans deemed impaired made in the past 20 years, citing without evidence, according to its interventions in the media, names of people and companies, supposedly beneficiaries of privileged loans, which is not without provoking strong reaction of the principal interested parties.

Reaction of the deputy of Pétion-ville Jerry Tardieu quoted by Me Newton Saint-Juste :

"Hereby, I wish to inform the general public that I have no debt to ONA, an institution from which I have never borrowed one Gourde in my life, neither for myself nor for any of the companies in which I took part (even when it would have been my right since provided for by the law governing the matter).

I would like to make this clarification after hearing Me Newton Saint-Juste, who presents himself as a lawyer for the Haitian state, mention my name several times as a debtor of the ONA. No one is fooled. There is no doubt that these slanderous and deceitful attacks, apart from all professional and deontological ethics, are part of an inclination of the power in place to smear personalities who dare to criticize the disastrous management of the country.

No attempt at intimidation or political persecution will prevent the committed citizen that I am from continuing to be involved in the affairs of the city. Against all odds, I will never give up the honor of being their target to paraphrase Edmond Rostand.

I take this opportunity to draw the attention of the national and international community, and human rights organizations, to the serious dangers faced by the Haitian democracy. To dare to criticize the current authorities, even being a parliamentarian, is now to expose oneself to baseless attacks and to raised visor of henchmen disguised as jurists who, under the pretext of false lies and files assembled from scratch, impunity tarnish the reputation of those who do not give up on their regim. In his diatribes, this modern-day inquisitor often associates me with the Oasis Hotel, of which I am, like ONA and 200 other investors, only a simple and proud shareholder. If he had taken the trouble to address the board of directors of this renowned hotel establishment, he would certainly have confirmed to him that this company does not benefit from any ONA loan.

While reserving the right to initiate such and only legal action, I dismiss these accusations, baseless and unworthy of a lawyer, with the back of my hand. Besides, listening to the preposterous argument of this 'lawyer', I cannot prevent me to thinking to Me. Gérard Gourgues, who faced with the maneuvers of the awkward gravediggers of our nascent democracy exclaimed wisely : 'Even the wrong, they do wrong'."
