Haiti - FAO : Signature of a socio-economic empowerment project of 1,200 rural women

Friday January 24, José Luis Fernández, the Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Evelyne Sainvil the Minister for the Status of Women signed the socio-economic empowerment project of rural women, which will benefit 1,200 women heads of families in the Southeast.

This memorandum of understanding responds to Guideline 5 of the Gender Equality Action Plan, entitled "For economic equality and equitable access to employment between women and men."

Financed by FAO's own funds, this memorandum of understanding will allow the Ministry for the Status of Women to provide technical support to women's associations involved in the processing and marketing of agricultural products in the communes of Belle-Anse and Thiotte.

"This project is aligned with axis 2 of the National Policy and Strategy of Sovereignty and Food Security and Nutrition in Haiti, which aims to strengthen family agricultural production, processing and marketing," said at the ceremony by José Luis Fernández.
