Haiti - Crisis : Clarifications of the Apostolic Nunciature

In a note, the Apostolic Nunciature in Haiti informs that following the request of President Jovenel Moïse, certain political parties and some actors of the civil society, the Holy Father, Pope Francis gave his authorization to make available the premises of this Apostolic Nunciature for talks between the various actors of Haitian socio-political life.

The Political Conference for a way out of the crisis that opened on Wednesday in the premises of the Apostolic Nunciature is organized by the Haitian Committee for Patriotic Initiative (CHIP), with the support of the United Nations Integrated Office for Haiti (BINUH) represented not Helen La Lime, Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations and the support of the Organization of American States (OAS), represented by Cristobal Dupouy.

"The Apostolic Nunciature nevertheless wishes to emphasize that it does not participate in the political discussions that take place there and it reaffirms that, in accordance with its specific vocation, it does not support any political party or any political actor in the national life.

By making its premises available for the aforementioned Conference, the Apostolic Nunciature, in communication with the Conference of Bishops of Haiti, is motivated solely by the desire to offer a chance for Peace and stability in Haiti.

The Apostolic Nunciature thanks the international community for its efforts in the search for Peace in Haiti.

All the faithful as well as people of good will are invited to pray so that the Spirit of the Lord continues to work effectively at the heart of debates and initiatives on the present and future of the Haitian Nation.

May the Lord bless each other's efforts so that Haiti resolutely advances on the path of peace in a climate of harmony and social harmony."

In addition, the Haitian Patriotic Initiative Committee confirms that representatives of the Presidency, political parties, civil society, the Conference of Rectors and Presidents of Haitian Universities (CORPUAH), representatives of the KINAM agreement, of the Marriott Accord and non-aligned parties, met at the Apostolic Nunciature on Wednesday 29.

At the end of this first day of discussion, three proposals for an agreement to end the crisis were submitted to the participants. These proposals will be analyzed during the session on Thursday 30 January in order to reach a consensual final text which will be communicated to the general public.
