Wednesday, February 12, 2020, the number of people infected worldwide (laboratory confirmed cases) rose to 45.203, an increase of 2.065 cases (500 cases less than the previous day, 2nd day of consecutive decline); 1,116 deaths (+ 9.6%) or 98 more than the day before (1,018) and 4,983 people healed or 699 people (+ 16.3%) more than the day before (4,284) and 3.8 times more healing than deaths compared to 4.2 times the day before. To date, there have been 518 infected people outside of China (laboratory confirmed cases) including 2 deaths 1 in the Philippines and 1 in Hong Kong.
Towards new prisons
The divisional commissioner, Noël Charles Nazaire, Director of the National Penitentiary Administration (APENA) declared that the authorities envisage in the medium term, the construction of a penitentiary complex in the region of Ganthier which will include workshops as well as other Centers in Carrefour and Pétion-ville to deal with prison overcrowding and for security reasons.
The Péligre hydro power station stopped
The 54 MW of Péligre is not available following the shutdown of the last turbine of the hydroelectric power plant on February 10 due to the low level of the lake water. USA : Donation of equipment and materials to the PNH
On February 9, the Ambassador of the United States in Haiti, Michele Sison, joined the Director General of the National Police of Haiti, Rameau Normil, to take part in a ceremony to hand over equipment, tactical supplies and vehicles essential to the units of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) more specifically for the Intervention Corps for the Maintenance of Order (CIMO), the Office for the Fight against Drug Trafficking (BLTS), and the Border Police (POLIFRONT).
Employer representatives reunited with Moïse
Tuesday noon, representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham-Haiti) of the Haiti Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIH), the Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH) and the Franco-Haitian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CFHCI) met with President Jovenel Moïse to discuss the current socio-economic situation and the enormous challenges faved by the country and possible solutions to combat smuggling and tax fraud.
