Haiti - Humanitarian : Appeal of funds of $253M to aid 2.1 million Haitians 03/03/2020 09:46:05 This plan, initially launched at the time when Haiti had just experienced a serious political, economic and social crisis, has been updated to respond to a significant increase in the number of people in need, which increased from 2.6 million in 2019 to 4,6 million in 2020 (more than 90 %). This increase is explained by the serious serious deterioration of the humanitarian situation closely linked to the crisis, but also by an improvement in the calculation methodology and greater availability of data. Among the people concerned, 2.1 million will be targeted as part of the strategy of this response plan. In 2020, the response plan strategy will focus most of the efforts on the basic needs of vulnerable people (food, nutrition, water, shelter) and access to basic services (including health and education); protection (including victims of gender violence and children) as well as the elimination of diseases with epidemic potential. This plan, the fruit of close collaboration between the various humanitarian partners and their government counterparts, is launched jointly by the national authorities, with the participation of the Minister of Planning, representatives of the various key ministries in humanitarian action, the entire humanitarian community working in Haiti (United Nations agencies, national and international NGOs), as well as donors and representatives of the Member States. "The Humanitarian Response Plan that we are launching today is proof that the Government and Humanitarian Agencies are driven by the same deep conviction : that of an effective and efficient implementation of humanitarian aid in Haiti. It is imperative, in this context of recurrent crises, to meet this challenge by stopping to assess humanitarian aid only on the basis of what it has made it possible, but also on its performance in the prevention and protection dimension of lives; strengthening the coordination of humanitarian actions in order to reach the most vulnerable sections of the population and facilitate the achievement of recovery and sustainable development objectives," said Jean Roudy Aly, Minister of Planning a.i. Bruno Lemarquis, Humanitarian Coordinator, Resident Coordinator and Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Haiti, called for a strong mobilization in support of the humanitarian response plan "Today, through this Plan, humanitarian actors renew their commitment to work to save lives, alleviate suffering and preserve the dignity of the most vulnerable households and to strengthen their resilience. At the same time, and in all coherence, it is essential to also renew our commitment in favor of structuring development actions to reduce the vulnerabilities and risks that populations face." The updated Humanitarian Response Plan covers the period until the end of 2020 with the possibility of reviewing the needs expressed if necessary during this period.
