Haiti - Health : MSF treated more than 220 gunshot wounded in 3 months
In the three months following its opening, the Tabarre trauma hospital managed by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29462-haiti-crisis-msf-opens-new-hospital-specialized-in-serious-injuries.html admitted more than 360 patients in need of vital care, including more than 220 patients wounded by gunshot wounds and other violence related injuries.

"Since opening the hospital in Tabarre, we have seen on a daily basis the devasting impact that violence—from fighting between gangs to violence associated with political demonstrations—has on the lives of people in Port-au-Prince and beyond," said Hassan Issa, MSF Head of Mission in Haiti "The number of severe injuries from violence that we have treated reflects the dire situation prevailing today in Haiti’s urban areas, where gang shootings, car hijackings and kidnappings regularly occur."

In order to help more patients, shortly after it opened, MSF doubled the hospital's capacity to 50 beds. Since then, the hospital has remained at roughly full capacity, with sporadic spikes in admission following violent incidents or major accidents.

The most recent peak of activity occurred around the carnival period, when the hospital received in a single week 37 new hospital patients. During the same period, we organized accompanied trips for our staff to and from work to ensure 24-hour service, despite armed roadblocks and a city-wide curfew at the following a lethal shooting between the army and police demonstrators https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30109-haiti-flash-clashes-in-champ-de-mars-at-least-a-dozen-victims-provisional-assessment.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30102-haiti-flash-high-tension-at-champ-de-mars.html
