Haiti - Politic : «The coronavirus is not a fatality» message from President Moïse
Monday at the National Palace, President Jovenel Moïse addressed the Nation to inform them of the actions of the Government, sensitize the population to the respect of the barrier measures and to the decisions taken within the framework of the state of Health Emergency and to try to reassure in the face of the epidemic while advocating union and wearing a mask...

Extract from the Head of State's message :

"[...] When we look at the damage caused in foreign countries with large medical infrastructures, hospitals, research centers [...] I realize that we have to be more careful [...] We have to take more more precautions.

[...] As you can see, everyone's behavior has changed in the world. You also have to change your behavior, the way you live.

[...] The coronavirus is not a fatality.

When someone is sick, that doesn't mean they are going to die. Most of the patients are cured and several have had the disease without reaching a serious level. In Haiti, the State is doing its best to provide care in the appropriate spaces. You have to collaborate when the State takes a decision, it makes spaces available to provide medical care, you have to protect them and work to conserve those spaces. In case several people have the disease, so that we can treat them.

[...] I ask you to protect all the treatment centers for patients with coronavirus.

People with coronavirus should not be stigmatized [...] a Covid-19 patient suffers in his mind, body and soul, he wants your support and not your humiliation. He wants your attention, your moral help, and that of those around him.

[...] We must not kill patients suffering from COVID-19. When it is your turn, the neighbors will behave the same towards you. That’s why you have to be tolerant.

[...] You must take your precautions so as not to catch the virus when someone is sick, you must require that you wear a mask.

The State is making efforts to distribute masks nationwide. You who live in the countryside, you can produce masks to protect the residents of your locality.

[the Scientific Commission has a stock of 3 million masks and the distributions should start on Wednesday April 15]

[...] The private sector has started helping hospitals. I encourage this and if there are others who want to do the same, they can speak to the Sector Commission by calling the number 2020 for information; it is important to collaborate.

[...]

At the moment, the Multisectoral Commission, in concert with the Ministry of Public Health, has more than 3 million masks in its warehouse. They will distribute 1,300 gowns for medical personnel, 5,000 gallons of alcohol disinfectant solution in various hospitals, containment centers, etc... to disinfect their hands. The production continues and I thank the Association of Haitian Pharmacists, the Laboratory and all those who contributed to produce this solution based on alcohol 70.

I ask the subcontracting industries to collaborate in the fight against the coronavirus by creating good conditions to produce the necessary masks and materials. [...] Managers and employees of the factories, we must respect the instructions of the authorities, we must respect social distances, we must reduce the number of workers and respect barrier measures and hand washing.

I ask the Prime Minister and the Minister of the Interior to meet with the Federation of Mayors and other associations of mayors to find cohesion between the government and the communities [...] Today, only one cartel exists : the fight against the Covid-19. We have to come together to fight this coronavirus.

[...] Just as the Prime Minister created a scientific cell, I ask him to set up an economic cell to reflect on how we will live after the coronavirus crisis. [...]

[...] The Covid-19 forces us to live differently for a while. I ask you not to rebel against the state and its recommendations because you will help save lives. We must not forget the preventive measures : regular hand washing, we must respect the 3 steps of distancing, etc..."
