Haiti - Health : Situation of Cholera in South-east 04/06/2011 09:22:37 Health authorities in the region have presented to the local press this Thursday, June 2, 2011, a strategic plan involving the Assemblies of communal Section (ASEC), the Boards of Directors of the Communal Section (CASEC), Mayors, Health Centres and Clinics throughout the Department of the South-east allowing them to collect figures on the amount of people with cholera and to provide an urgent response to the patients. According to the latest report of the South-East department. Health authorities the towns of Marigot 66 deaths, Bainet 34 deaths, Thiotte 33 deaths, are the areas most affected by the epidemic of cholera. Dr. Yves Gaston Délouche, the Departmental Health Director of South-east expresses his concern face to the arrival of the hurricane season that could increase the disease compared to the rainy season in addition the rivers are already in flood. The emergency units will not be able to travel in the areas inaccessible to rescue the population tin the communal sections hard-hit by the epidemic. The Departmental Health Director has indicated that the Ministry of Public Health has decided to open at least eight units of Cholera Treatment (CTU) in the South-east because of the outbreak of cholera in the the department. Dr. Yves Jasmin Gaston stressed the necessity for the population to continues to apply the principles of hygiene. In spite of everything, drug stocks are available, ready to be distributed to patients through the various partners on the ground said Dr. Jasmin. Recall that the communes affected by the current resurgence of cholera are Anse-à-Pitre, Bainet, Côtes-de-Fer, Thiotte, Belle-Anse, Cayes-Jacmel, Marigot, la Vallée et Jacmel.
