Haiti - Economy : The recycling of plastic will create 5,000 jobs in the country over 5 years 11/06/2020 10:23:44
As part of World Ocean Day (June 8) the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) reiterated its commitment to coastal communities and marine habitats.
PADF recalls that each year, more than 7.3 million tonnes of plastic are dumped in the oceans around the world, causing dangers to marine life, transferring toxic chemicals into the food chain and affecting livelihoods coastal communities.
The "Ayiti Blue Ocean Plastics" solution, a partnership between "Environmental Cleaning Solutions SA" (ECSSA), a Haitian recycling company and PADF-Haiti, with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29172-haiti-environment-idb-$1-million-for-recycling-plastics.html will engage the coastal communities of Haiti to collect plastics from oceans and transfer them to the ECSSA factory via a digital supply chain.
Note that plastics, once collected, can be transformed and recycled into products such as clothing, ink cartridges and even "wood".
The PADF estimates that over 5 years this project will create 5,000 jobs and prevent in Haiti that nearly 7,000 tonnes of plastic (or 198 million plastic bottles) end up in our oceans.
