In a note, the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) said it was worried about the "increase in violence and barbaric acts perpetrated in the neighborhoods of the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince" stressing "the attacks against the population, which have intensified in recent weeks, have made at least 6 dead, and 12 wounded by firearms, having resulted in the looting and burning of 70 houses https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-31147-haiti-news-zapping.html . Serious allegations of rape have been reported. The increase in insecurity and the recurrence of these attacks have also caused the displacement of affected populations to other neighborhoods, thus aggravating their situation of vulnerability."

BINUH calls on the authorities concerned to take all necessary actions to protect the population, in particular by "strengthening the presence of law enforcement personnel in areas marked by violence" by ensuring security and enabling the displaced persons to safely return to their neighborhoods, recalling "The State has an obligation to protect all citizens, regardless of their place of residence on national territory."

Their perpetrators and accomplices must be identified, arrested and prosecuted by the police and judicial authorities through fair and equitable investigations "stressing" It is essential to end impunity which constitutes one of the main factors of violence and destruction of the social fabric. The cycle of violence can only stop if those responsible for these crimes are fully accountable, and guarantees of access to justice and reparation are fully provided to the victims of these violations and human rights abuse."
