Haiti - Reconstruction : Carl Lewis deplores the failure of the promises made to Haiti

In visit in Haiti for 24 hours, after spending three days in the Dominican Republic, Carl Lewis [American athlete, 8 Olympic gold medals and nine world titles, has met the President Martelly yesterday, Monday in Port-au-Prince.

During this meeting the President Martelly expressed "the hopes and concerns of his administration regarding the degradation of natural resources and environment"

"What I heard, what I know about Haiti, it is that it has serious problems of deforestation... I think that the Dominican Republic, Haiti and the international community must work together so that the country can improve its economic and social situation, for the benefit of its people and all inhabitants of the island" declared Sunday the Goodwill Ambassador of FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization).

Carl Lewis deplores that the promises made by donor countries, after the earthquake of January 2010, have not been met "What we do know is that the promises were not kept, the Haitian people want to go towards development, but it can not do it alone, without help from other countries. When I will leave Haiti, I will draw their attention on this situation, I will raise my voice to demand that the promises are met."
